Agenda

Session 1. Airport Modernisation in Russia & CIS

Russian & CIS Airport Industry Overview

Russian & CIS airports are undergoing intensive modernization. This includes implementation of Western airport management techniques and approaches as well GSE fleets upgrade. Ground handling technology also requires upgrades, and Western experience can be the key factor.

Russian Airport Modernization

After years of stagnation major airports throughout Russia see their future as regional centres. The year 2011 has seen opening of new terminals as well as full renovation of old facilities. While air carriers lead the path airports have to meet airlines’ demands especially those operating Westernbuilt aircraft, in various aspects of ground service. Airport modernization leaders will explain their results and strategies.

Airport infrastructure formation and renewal

In many cases airport infrastructure renewal means its deep modernization if not a creation of a brand new one. Modern IT solutions may be the key factor to optimize airport complex operation and service and raising them to higher level.

Session 2. Ground Handling Management

Traditionally ground handling is a peaks and trough business and this leads to staff and equipment challenges.

The dilemma is that you do not want to employ too many skilled staff only to have them idle for 50% of their working day so what is the answer? Today integrated scheduling software can optimise a handlers work process and workforce utilisation.

Outsourcing Your Ground Handling Operations

Ground handling competition is still unknown in most of Russian & CIS airports. Nevertheless, new airport management companies in the region will implement Western business principles. As an airport operator what are the benefits of outsourcing your ground handling operations? Western airport managers will share their views and expertise.

Ground handling operations — carriers point of view

Turn-around time is one of the most important factors for carriers in terms of cost-saving and service efficiency. What are the requirements of the airlines and how can airports meet them?

Session 3. GSE Fleet Management and Finance

GSE Fleets in Russia & CIS

Modern ground equipment is still a newcomer in the region. For the moment most airports can only afford acquisition of used Western equipment. Nevertheless, local airports’ needs can be analysed through a research and experience of key Russian and international suppliers.

Today outright ownership may not be the best option and alternatives such as leasing and pooling can be a cost effective alternative in certain circumstances. International specialist in GSE fleet management explain the options.

Session 4. Ground Handling Techniques and Processes

Passenger Service

Terminal modernization is based largely on enhancing efficiency of passenger and baggage handling. An intelligent project along with latest IT solutions and equipment are the key to success.

Deicing — Liquid Gold?

Running the right deicing operation can improve the profit and loss of the winter services budget. New fluids and application methods can help you to minimize your direct deicing costs and a new approach to training can help to keep your winter services team up to scratch.

Cost-saving Technology on the Ground

Saving costs on all levels is the target of any up-to-date technology. For example, if you can get an aircraft to the runway without starting up the engines you would at least save fuel and spare the turbines. A driverless tow vehicle can be controlled from the cockpit just by steering the aircraft nose wheel.

Service Level Agreements — Working with Foreign Carriers

When the carrier and handler have a clear working mandate the business relationship should be long and fruitful. However, you only get what you negotiate for and agreeing the best terms of an SLA is not necessarily an easy task.
